Community Service/Fund Raising
Efforts Events
Each year Morning Star Rotary runs a variety of fundraising events.
Below are some examples of programs we have participated in the
past:
Our special two-year commitment with the “downtown” Bethlehem Rotary
Club celebrated Rotary International’s 100th Anniversary by raising
$100,000 for St. Luke’s Union Station Dental Clinic
We have joined with the “downtown” Bethlehem Rotary Club in
sponsoring a Golf Tournament. Together we raise $11,000-$20,000 per
year. Beneficiaries have included the Visiting Nurses Association
Hospice Program, Skills USA/VICA, Lehigh Valley Chamber Orchestra,
Meals on Wheels, VIABLE Services and the Boys and Girls Club
Our annual “Morning Star 5K” is in its 19th year and is held on the
last Saturday of September. Beneficiaries include Bethlehem Special
Olympics, Cops ‘N Kids and other local community initiatives
Every November we partner with the Allentown Band, one of the oldest
orchestra bands in the country, to perform a patriotic “Salute the
Troops” concert. Beneficiaries have included Hurricane Katrina
initiatives and Victory House, which supports homeless veterans
In February we get together with the Bethlehem Area Vocational
Technicl School (BAVTS) and cook up a wonderful spaghetti dinner.
Proceeds benefit local community programs such as organizations as
the Illick’s Mills Conservancy, Pennsylvania Ballet Guild, and Arts
Quest Summer Intern Program,
Beneficiaries of our various fundraisers are chosen annually based
upon Morning Star’s rotating theme for that year. The three themes
are youth, Health and Human Services and Arts and Culture
In addition to local projects, we also participate in international
Rotary efforts including:
Polio Eradication
Mosquito nets (to prevent malaria)
Rotaplast (cleft palate surgery in 3rd world countries)
Shelter Box
